I have 5 three week old bantam chicks that are really tiny! About the size of a standard day old. I am getting about 18 standard chicks next week. I was thinking about putting them together? Will that be ok? How can I make sure the younger standards get enough heat while not overheating the older bantams??? Maybe I should just keep them separate until they all go in the coop...?
I have mixed chicks with that grouping several times. Just make sure the active banties aren't going to damage the standards, and the older chicks have plenty of space to get away from the heat source. If you CAN seperate them, do. It is better safe than sorry.
