I've already posted about the mess up mypetchickens made yesterday and shipped us 15 chicks. we already have 15 that are vaccinated from a local farm. this new batch of 15 from mypetchickens is not vaccinated. I have kept them separate so far but it is a royal pain. it would be so much easier if i could combine them for a couple of days until i can find a new home. Can I?

anyone near durham, nc want some free chicks?

I don't know the answer, having never had vaccinated birds. Hopefully someone will give you a definitive answer soon.

What were they vaccinated for? I would think you can mix them unless that particular vaccine makes them a carrier of the disease. The unvaccinated chicks would just not have the added protection. Someone correct me if I am wrong on this. [IMG]

I fully agree. If you don't know what they are vaccinated for, you cannot safely answer this question. I could assume they were vaccinated for Marek's or maybe Coccidiosis, but them I might give you dangerous advice.

The vaccinated ones were vaccinated for Mareks disease. The others were simply not vaccinated.

Marek's vaccine prevents tumor growth caused by the disease but does not prevent the disease itself. Any chicken may or may not have been exposed to the disease; it is quite common. The vaccine does not cause vaccinated chicks to give Marek's to unvaccinated chicks. Read here:
