One of our hens, Cheeps, has just started molting. We have 4 hens and one rooster now and all the others have done it big time and she did not at that time. The others are 3 1/2 yrs old. Cheeps is 1 yr and 3 months old. We live in South Dakota and while we have had a mild fall so far, what would be the reason for only her molting later? We got the others at the same time and they all have molted at the same time but would it be different since she came later? Or because she is younger? This is her first molt so maybe it's her first soft one as I thought they did the first full molt at about 18 mos. She also does not huddle on the roost with the others and is the low lady on the totem pole so I worry about her getting cold.
