Hello
My 9 month old Jersey Giant is losing feathers. In general she looks smaller so I’m assuming she is losing the feathers all over but there is a pretty bad bald spot on her neck. (Pics attached).
I thought the first molt was later in life so now I’m wondering if she has lice or mites or something else. I checked her out and checked her vent. I can’t see any bug eggs or crawling bugs but I also might not know what I am looking for. Under where her feathers are looks scabby to me but again - do I not know what chicken skin looks like haha.
We live in MA and it’s been cold here, 30 degrees. I use DE in the coop every other week, she eats layer pellets, oyster shells, snacks and has plenty of water.
She seemed a little off today but we also just noticed the feathers so I might be projecting my worry.
thoughts?
