molting

    what does it mean for a chicken to molt? what does it do to them?

    It depends when they hatched. Most will begin their first adult molt between 12 and 18 months. But I've had some pullets go through a minor molt at 9 months.

    You'll know when it's happening. They will quit laying and it will look like a pillow exploded in your yard.
