About what age do chickens molt for the first time?

They go through several mini-molts as they are getting their adult feathers. Their first adult molt usually comes around 18 months old.

I guess these mini-molts would explain why there are always feathers everywhere! [IMG]

Most of my chickens are about 16 months old, should I expect them to start molting sometime in the next few months? I have heard that they will molt once a year, but have yet to see it.

Quote:Yeah, in another month or two you should start seeing a decrease in egg production then one day your coop will look like a pillow factory exploded - feathers everywhere.
