While they are molting some like to feed them a higher protein feed. Feathers are mostly protein after all.

Mine are molting like crazy. I'm giving them extra meal worms and some scrambled egg to help them thru.

My birds are going through heavy molts. It looks like they have been having pillow fights with all of the feathers.

Since they probably won't lay you can take them off the layer feed and put them on a flock raiser feed that has 20% protein.

I can't get flock raiser feed here where I live but I have found a feed store in my area that sells a 22% poultry feed that I have to special order and if I can't get it I use gamebird feed which is 20% protein. I think it helps the birds when they are molting.

I have heard of people using the gamebird mix while molting. Works pretty good and I guess they gobble it up.

I have four hens altogether. Two of them are molting and two aren't and still laying. Do I offer both layer and flock raiser or take the layer feed out?
