So the one and only egg hatched yesterday-- however the mom wants nothing to do with the chick and wants to go live it up.. So now I am left to raise this thing. She wanted no parts of it and I came home to a freshly hatched chick and mom nowhere near and the poor thing was cold. I brought her to the chick and she looked at it and then went to the box next to it and started to lay down. So I put her IN the box with the chick and she bolted out like there was a hawk inside or something. I brought it to my neighbors to dry off in his incubator and now I have it in my basement with a heat lamp, food and water and it's in a giant silver tub from tractor supply. A couple questions.... do I give it medicated feed or non medicated? When can I feed it goodies from my fridge? (greens, fruits, etc.)... grass...? And will it be ok being all by itself with no other chicks as long as it has the heat lamp? I cannot believe she left me with this thing. Kind of neat but kind of irritated Also, how accurate is wing feather sexing? And laying them on their backs and seeing what they do with their feet? Because mine is doing everything a rooster would do, and the wings look like a rooster's (based on the you tube video I saw).. grrrr!!
