Got some poultry fencing so my six week old silkies can enjoy this hot weather properly. Mom went out with an old stump, showing them where all the grubs are.
Later she gave them lettuce?
Not my chickens any more. it's nice that they're bonding and they've doubled in size while eating half as much feed since she started bringing them every slug, grub, and ant in the garden but ahaha I think I have at least three rosters and I wouldn't mind keeping them but they're growing into real low quality silkies(not a lot of chickens available around my area, and no travelling with covid), and I've just got a more livestock oriented attitude than she does, I'm going to have to get a lot more poultry fencing next year so I can keep them out of my hatching eggs.
Anyways, they're charming nonetheless.
Can't wait to see how these partridges grow out, I love the colour.
They love to hunker down in the long grass.
Look at that crooked beak! The other black one is even worse, and turning into a crossbeak. Mom is gonna be charmed when she notices. they're both so sweet tho! This one has a lot of personality, he's the best at spotting and catching bugs.
Mad props to my two small dogs, they chase every other bird I see and are 50/50 even with bigger cats, but they're both champs so far. The puggle is more interested in eating their chick feed than them and the terrier has decided they're Ours and Must Be Protected.
