Moody Mother Hen

I have a very hormonal mother hen. She hatched chicks 5 weeks ago and ever since then she's been a nightmare. She chases the juveniles (not hers) around until they are scared and shivering in a corner. I'm not sure what to do with her. Will she snap out of this soon?

She's weaning them to be independent of her. She will stop being hormonal bit by bit as they learn to be on their own. It won't take too long. Try not to interfere. She knows what she's doing.

She's a terrific mother that she is very protective, but wow is she a monster to the other chickens. When the babies were real young, she would even charge at me with her wings out. Crazy girl!

That's why chickens fear broodies and give them a lot of space. Some are good at the job to a fault!

Give her time..She is weaning hers and grumpy too..

I guess I shouldn't really judge her since I once was a hormonal mother myself.
