Hi folks, first I want to say how much I appreciate this site.
Yesterday, I noticed that lila was sitting down a lot, and though she could walk it seemed that she was weak until she got going, she and her mate spend the nights in a enclosed (1/4in wire mesh) run which is attached to a large high ceiling dog house, they are quite social and so we walk together daily to a considerable sized lake fed pond, in and around the pond is where they forage and splash and enjoy the day. we had a dangerously dry summer and the pond did get very low, but I was not aware of any stagnate smell. They also have fresh water daily in their enclosure. They eat a certified organic 17% protein mash, along with organic peas, mixed greens and some tofu as a treat.
Their bedding is changed anywhere from every 3 days to 6 days depending on how long they are outside and whether it has rained etc to dampen the hay.
I have worked with ducks in triage etc as a volunteer, but this is the first time that I have lived with some. They have been here for almost 2 yrs, other than Ronnie arriving with foamy eye, they have been vital and strong...... I have brought lila inside, she spent some time in luke warm water in bathtub and is now resting in a dog crate in bathroom, she's eating drinking and preening/cleaning. There seems to be something off in the positioning of one of her claws, but no redness or inflammation or heat......geez my apologies for the long post, i'm want to provide as much info as possible. THANKS!
