Hi. Thanks for the add. After not having chickens for years, I finally built a chicken pen and found some red star hens last week. A lady was selling them for a cheap price because she had bought 1000's of them at auction from an egg production farm. While they are not my first choice, they are a start. It's a plus that they are bred to produce eggs. The down fall came in to find they are not so healthy. Colds, mites and such. They were barn kept "free range"... which actually just means a barns a giant cage. I can say my girls are on a road to recovery and doing great. They seem to love their 8 x 16 size pen, a heat lamp on cool nights, clean food and water on a daily basis, and a clean hen house.
