I have 9 Muscovy ducks, chocolates and chocolate/white pied. They are last spring and summer's hatch, so less than a year old. I know the tail wagging, crest raising, and neck thrusting is communication...but what are they actually saying? Does anyone know what the specific body language means? I've had horses all my life, and dogs, and I can read horse and dog body language easily, but the ducks are new to me--so when I let them out of the duckhouse in the morning and the big chocolate drake makes thrusting motions with his neck at the others ( apparently all hens) and wags his tail, is he calling them together, announcing they are going out, or what? The drake, Padre, is the most personable and I think the most intelligent, certainly the leader, of his little flock. I'd love to know what they are actually saying to each other...which gesture means what? Any experienced duck hands out there who know?
