I have some 8-9 week muscovy ducks. When do they start to defend themselves from the chickens? My drake is already much much bigger than the chickens, but he is not defending his hens. At what age does he become mature

usually by 6 months they are adults but my drake is over 5 yrs and gives some of my chickens a wide birth. I do not pen my chickens and ducks up together. 8-9 weeks is way to young to be defending his girls they mature [email protected]

Ok. They are penned up right now and get along fine. Out of my ducks, my youngest will get picked on if she is out first. However, if the male gets out first no one messes with him.

I am not wanting him to attack them, I am hoping my drake steps up and becomes the alpha for both the chickens and the ducks (he will be my only male)

I have a Blk Australorp hen who pushes all my ducks around. Chickens can really put a hurtin on a duck especially when they are young. So keep an eye out.
