How does the mustard egg trick work?

You take a regular egg, then you poke two holes in the ends and use something like straw to blow out the insides. Then you fill the egg with regular yellow mustard, partway. Put the egg back in the nesting box.

How it works: The Chicken will peck the egg ready for the usual tasty treat inside. Instead, it will taste mustard and I guess chickens don't like mustard so eventually they will give up eating altogether.

From all I've read, which is a lot, it does not work 99.9% of the time.
Just makes a different kid of mess.

Actually it's not a lot of work. I've heard it works for some people.

Sort of, yes.... I put the egg in last night and this morning when I checked it and it was un-touched. This afternoon it was gone.
