Well as of a few hours ago, I have 50 buff Orpington pullets, 5 buff Orpington males, 50 RIR pullets, and 5 RIR males ordered from Ideal poultry due to arrive Friday January 27.

My flock right now consists of mostly bantam Cochins and old English game bantams with a few random chickens thrown in that I'm too attached to to sell just because they're misfits. My boyfriend Ryan isn't a big fan of my bantams so he's quite happy that I've ordered a bunch of "real" chickens as he puts it.

The plan is to raise them up till they're almost ready to lay and then sell the majority of them. We'll keep the best looking ones for ourselves to continue the project and hopefully make enough off the ones we sell to make more pens.

I'll upload pictures off all the little fluffy butts when they arrive and keep posting as they grow up.

:)

Wow!

What are you going to do once you get 100 + eggs a day??

Well we're planning on selling the majority of the chickens when they're about ready to lay but we'd eat some of the eggs and hatch some as well most likely.

UPDATE:

Ideal Poultry called this mornin and asked if it would be ok to ship my chicks this mornin instead of next week. I guess they didn't sell enough chicks for this week and had chicks that needed to be shipped today. So it looks like my chicks willbe here Friday. I'll post pictures when they arrive and get settled in.

Lol. That it definately is!

This is my first time attempting to raise a large quantity of something for the sole purpose of re-selling them later. Hopefully I don't screw it up! Lol

Well the chicks are here a day early! I got a call at 7:00am from the post office and drove the 20 min to pick them up and get them home and situated before I had to be back in town to work at 8:30am. We were planning on getting everything situated for them today so of course we weren't ready this morning and ryan is hurrying to get all the heat lamps set up for the little fluffy butts while I'm at work.

Boys have purple spots on their heads. There are 50 buff orpington females and 5 males, and 50 rhode island red females and 5 males. There's one rhode island red female with a cross beak and one buff female with a cross beak. One buff female looks to have some of her intestines on the outside and they dried up, it was a loop and her leg was through it. The only thing I could do was cut it to get her leg free, it was dried up anyways but I hope she makes it.

Here's a few pictures I took this morning.
