My very last chick just hatched out - I mean, just. hatched. out. Minutes ago. This is Day 24 for this chick - it's truly a miracle. The chick pipped the egg yesterday - I finally cracked the perimeter around 3pm but saw blood and immediately my heart sank as I was pretty sure it would die. I wrapped it in a moist paper towel but it stopped moving and making noise - just opened it's beak every once in a while. I shut the bator down and decided the hatch was over. I kept the wrapped egg in a box in the brooder box under the lamp and kept misting the paper towel. I had no hope. I kept checking the chick and it was always still alive. I decided to start the bator back up and put it inside with moist sponges. It had it's eyes open and it was starting to chirp about an hour ago. This chick is named Rambo - this is the toughest little most determined to live chick I have ever seen. He will spend the night in the incubator warming up and drying off and joining the rest of the 25 chicks tomorrow! All of my sadness has been replaced by joy in the miracle of seeing this chick hatch out on it's own when everything I did to it should have killed it. I am in awe!
