Hey All!

I hatched this “lavender Ameraucana” from eggs from a local breeder. She was weak as a chick so I ended up hanging onto her rather than selling with the rest of that batch of chicks to make sure she made it through. 5-6 months later and I’ve had her outside with my Silkie flock where she’s doing great. Personality-wise she has seemed like obviously a hen this entire time, but I didn’t grow out any others of this breed so I don’t have a good basis of comparison.

I recently did some rearranging of roosters for breeding purposes, and the flock got a bit shaken up. The new alpha roo is a bit weaker than the previous one I had with this flock. Much to my surprise a few weeks later, I caught this Ameraucana red handed crowing exactly like a rooster!

I know they say hens can crow, but isn’t it supposed to be rare? Is she a he? Help!
