The lady at the post office called and woke me up at 6:30 this morning to tell me that my babies were here. They just shipped yesterday….now that’s what I call service.

I ordered 8 Ameraucana pullets and 1 rooster

8 Black Australorp pullets and 1 rooster

8 New Hampshire Red pullets and 1 rooster and

8 Buff Braham pullets but no rooster; I figured three roosters would be enough.

I built my brooder out of three cardboard boxes that I duct taped together. I lined the inside of the boxes with plastic sheeting and put bricks and pine shaving on top of it. I sat the box on some leftover pieces of siding that I also covered with plastic sheeting. DH made a sawhorse out of some wood scraps to fit over the boxes so I would have a place to hang their light and a cover.

I got the chicks from Ideal and so far (knock on wood) they are all very active and seem healthy. I just hope it stays that way.

They are so cute!!!! I just went to check on them this morning and they were running around the box playing. They run and flap their stubby little wings.
