Hi everyone. I have a wyandotte bantam hen who is kind of broody. She stopped laying and was sitting in her nestbox most of the time. I dont have a rooster and only have 3 hens so I found a dozen mixed hatching eggs locally and put 7 of them in with her. It took her awhile but she is now sitting on them but I have to lock her in the nestbox to get her to stay there and she doesnt protect them like I hear hens do. She does move them under her sometimes and some of them are a little warm. This is her first time and mine as well so Im not expecting any chicks actually. Especially with the coldweather we're having in WI now. Is anyone elses hens like this? Also I let her out of the nest box twice a day but I dont know how long she can be away from the eggs?
