A few weeks ago, I had night field work, so my schedule was crazy. I didn't get eggs for several nights and DH forgot (in his defense, it is usually a task that I take care of). Well, all those eggs were just too enticing, I guess, and one of my salmon Faverolle's went broody.

After candling a bunch of eggs that she was sitting on, I gave her the ones that looked to be at the same stage. Between quiters and a cracked egg, she is sitting on 5 now. Last night I candled them and 3 were moving around inside!!

Not sure about the other two. Since we don't know exactly when she started sitting, we're leaving day 21 as somewhere between Saturday and Monday. I think it is closer to Sunday-Monday, but early hatchers may occur too, so, we'll see!!!

I've never hatched anyhting here at home!! We've always bought hatchery stock either from the feed store or the actual hatchery itself. It'll be her first time too!! She'll be a year old a week-and-a-half!!

I'll post pics as they hatch!!!

Oh you are in for a treat, broodies are the best! They do all the work, you just sit back (way back) and enjoy watching the little babies with their momma!

Is she sitting on Fav eggs, or is it a mixture of different eggs? Can't wait to see pics

She is sitting on a mix of eggs. We have two roosters (Jersey Giant and salmon Faverolle), but 8 different breeds of hens (however, only 6 could be in the mix since she doesn't have any Welsummer or EE eggs).

They could be purebred Jersey Giants, purebred salmon Faverolle or a mix of:
Jersey Giant
salmon faverolle
mottled Java
Buckeye
Delaware
Barred Rock

We shall see!!!

edited to add: None of the eggs are salmon Faverolle eggs, so no purebred Faverolle's either (the JG roo is the top roo and is the most "active" amongst the hens anyway).

I have another hen (who's the same age as my broody) that already went broody twice between 7 months old and 11 months of age! Needless to say, she will be frequently broody, I am sure. She hasn't hatched anything yet though. Well, I think she could tell my broody's eggs are moving, since she hopped in the nest (community nest) with my broody and took 2 of her eggs. They are now side by side sitting in the eggs. If she remains on the eggs, I will let them both hatch them and they can share the brooder coop and run. Both are very docile, so I don't think it'll be a problem. I just think it is funny that she stole two eggs from the broody and claimed them as hers!

Stealing eggs that are due to hatch is cheating!

She'll be sitting for a whole 2-3 days! Cheater!
