I went out in the coop the other day to find my favorite pullet (Hen-ryietta) with blood all over her rump. It had been about six hours since I had checked on the chicks (they are all about 3 weeks old). One of my cockerels also had a bloody spot on his right wing. I guess it doesn't take long once the picking starts. Anyway, the others wouldn't leave these two alone. I didn't have any vaseline to make my own hot pick plus I was afraid it would burn too much since they weren't just raw, they were bleeding.

Anyway, I got some Neosporin and doctored the wounds carefully, and then I smeared some Carmex lip balm on top of the Neosporin. As a side note, my wife loves Carmex, but I'm not that fond of the taste it leaves on your lips so I thought the chickens might not like it either. Well, it worked. The others picked at it few times, got a mouth full of Carmex, and then left them alone. That was two days ago, and no more picking. The wounds are healing nicely already. Just thought I'd share what worked for me.
