    How neat!
I am still waiting on my Cayugas to lay. I so want a black egg for some odd reason. I love to eat duck eggs much better than chicken eggs.
Congrats on the new egg layer!
How old is she now? Mine are 6 months so I am anxiously awaiting more eggs in the duck pen!

    Congrats! Isn't it great?!

Is it really black? Both of mine have now started laying. One lays very black eggs, the other grayish green eggs. They were hatched at the beginning of April so I've been watching for eggs.

    It is very exciting. [IMG]

They are about 5 1/2 months old. This egg is kinda greenish.....but they will get darker as time goes on.

I'm so excited.....now to wait for other 3 to start laying too.

I've read that they lay dark (black) eggs at first and get lighter as the season progresses. I've not read that they get darker.

My Cayuga's eggs were black for the first TWO, then they started greying up. Now she lays mottled white eggs.

Oh, and she just lays them anywhere. For a while she was actually using a kitty litter box I set up as a nest box for the chickens, now she just monopolizes that "nest box" but STILL lays her eggs anywhere she wants in the yard. Usually really close to the kiddie pond.

Kinda glad the eggs are so whitish, or I'd never be able to see them.

And maaaan, are they GOOD tasting!
