I have had dedicated hens keep taking care of their chicks for upwards of 4 months. Wasn't a problem.

It's not exactly laying season in the northern hemisphere. The shorter days of fall/winter put a stop to egg production. She'll start laying just as soon as her body is ready. You can't force it.

    Where are you located?

Do you know how old the hen is?

Most of us here are in the States. This time of year, it's common for a hen with chicks to continue to mother them and not return to laying eggs until spring.

If you're in the southern hemisphere, it may be different. You might try separating the chick from the hen. It's well old enough to be on it's own. I don't think the simple presence of the chick would keep the mother from laying (doesn't seem to with mine), but not sure what else to try. Hens just lay when they're ready, frustrating as that may be.
