I have one chicken (don't know which one) that clucks all night long. I have 53 chickens (I think!) from 7 weeks to 7 months old and one them does not shut up. This starts up after they are all tucked in the coop at night and she will cluck non stop all night. I have a security camera in the coop that is focused on the baby area and I can hear the constant clucking coming from inside the big girls coop where they roost. The handheld monitor is on my desk so I can see/listen to my babies.

This can't be normal or I would have 50+ chickens clucking. What the heck is wrong with her?? My husband wants to go out and suggest to the other girls that they stage a revolt against the lone loud mouth.

Could you post a recording of the "clucking" on youtube?

As I write this I can hear two birds making relavent vocalizations for reference. The sound your bird produced is not clucking. It sounds more like a respiratory problem and it is fairly loud. I have a couple doing same now. One is a rooster yet sound is very similar.

Why would this only be at night though? If it were a respiratory illness wouldn't she do this during the day too?

The answer to that I do not know. Young birds I have that are producing similar sounds actually roost on front porch where I can get close to them at night (they are my observation flock). They do make the sound when hot during day but it is most evident when they go to roost. While awake they may be able to a degree control its production. If like past episodes of this, then it will pass. I suspect strongly my version is related to mosquitos. While affected, birds making sound have reduced endurance.

How long does this usually last? It has been really hot here, in the 100's. I have a Misty Mate in their run and a fan blowing air OUT of the coop, not blowing directly on the birds. Is there anything I can do for her? I guess I need to figure out who it is that is making the noise. I will see if I can get in their coop tonight to watch.

For me it a hot weather thing as well, and it has been in excess of a 100. I do nothing.
