I have a Cuckkoo Marans, she’s about 5 to 6 months. She just started laying last week, and she lays every 2 days. They are very beautiful eggs!! Our chicken currently live in our garage as were getting them a chicken coop built. we take them out daily. and they are watched while their out. Yesterday she started panting and she is still panting today.. she is eating and drinking.. but still is panting and has her wings out like she’s hot. i was worried about an egg being stuck so i checked with my finger (with a glove of course) and i didn’t really feel an egg. but i didn’t really know how to check as it’s my first time doing this.. i need some help she’s my favorite chicken not to mention my 2 year old and her are stuck like glue..

    Where are you located?
Many people are suffering through a heat wave. It has been over 100° here.

Do they have heavily shaded areas?
While in the garage just how hot is the garage?
Any airflow in the garage or just hot standing air?
Can you run a fan of two in the garage?
Can you lift the door a couple inches to let air move?

I live in missouri, it’s about 95 outside, and it’s humid, we have 9 chickens and 1 roo, she’s the only one panting.. they have a fan. i’ve brought her inside, i’m actually cooking dinner and she’s roosting in my bar stool, and she has a fan and her own water and feed. i also gave her some egg shells for calcium incase it was because of that. today is the day she should lay..

The runny poo is a sign of heat stress.

    https://grubblyfarms.com/blogs/the-feed/10-signs-of-chickens-in-heat-stress

This site puts the symptoms in a nutshell.

Please do not give them oatmeal.
It is seriously lacking in the necessary nutrients and has been found to cause long term problems.

You can add electrolytes to the water to help. I believe Sav-a-chick is readily available.

If you want to give them a treat LIKE oatmeal simply wet some of their regular feed to make it the consistency of oatmeal.
Seriously they go nutty for it.

    OH get fans running.

Just because she is the only one showing symptoms doesn't mean she is the only one miserable.

    Air movement is important.

It's hot and miserable, and fans do help. Also cold water, or ice added to their waterer. Cold or frozen watermelon, maybe a pan with cool water to walk through.
