So, the neighbor dog came over and worked his way into the scratching yard freaking out all of my chickens and scattering them hither and yon (apparently they're due for a wing clipping!). At one point I was down to two chickens in the house (meaning I had five on the run somewhere)! Of course, I immediately called my husband who was working 10 hrs away and complained as I searched the yard. He tried to calm me down but I was having none of it!!! When I realized the chickens could get out thru the fence I immediately called a co-worker of my husband's (who is working locally) and asked him to bring me out some more fencing to correct the situation. This sounds logical, doesn't it? Of course I cried like a baby what else could the poor man do but comply? I grew my Australorps from itty bitty babies, for goodness sake! Later when my husband was home for his time off he got together with the guys and they got a good chuckle out of my chicken obsession! My husband always says that he swears I'd have him installing insulation and sheet rock in the hen house if I could. He's right, you know. I love my babies. [IMG]

Isn't it amazing how much you come to care for these things. I watch the chickens now and remember just how tiny they were. I a amazed that I am so proud of how they are growing and becoming so beautiful. Who would have thought you would get excited over a chickens first egg. lol

Quote:I was going to make some snarky comment about chicken babies and so on. But since there is a heathen dog involved, well... it's alright then. Dogs and chickens should be kept as far apart as possible. Little worthwhile good can come of their meeting.

May I suggest you erect an electric fence between them, and give Fido something to really think about? [IMG]

[IMG] At the start of my chicken habit I installed an air conditioner in their large coop for the hot summer months. I did remove it once it got clogged with dust though. [IMG]
