I know y'all must think I'm crazy for making such a big deal about my chickens, but you have to understand that even though I grew up in the country in NC, I've never had any kind of livestock or farm animal until now. I've never had a fresh egg (until today!

) and I'm 41 years old. So, in case you haven't read the other 3 threads where I've already posted my eggciting news... my 5-1/2 month old BA laid her first egg yesterday!

Betty's egg yolk was sunshine orange compared to the store bought egg. My VERY FIRST fresh egg was delicious!

That is exciting! I just had two eggs for breakfast and was thinking that even though I've had fresh eggs for several months now, it never gets old. I'm still excited to go to the coop everyday and collect eggs.

Your chickens are beautiful!

I wish that all of mine would start laying. They are all between 19 and 23 weeks old and I still onely get 1 to 2 eggs a day if that.

I am ready to go out and pick up 15 to 20 eggs a day.

Oh, CONGRATS! I know JUST how you feel! When I got my first egg, I didn't want to eat it! I just couldn't bring myself to crack it open! I even took a picture of it and "labeled" the picture to e-mail to my DH!!

I am eating an egg salad sandwich for my lunch as I read this. Made from my beautiful BO's eggs. Delcious! I am rediscovering the joys of eggs.

Yeah, I was pretty sure it was fertile (go Lacey!

) I showed that spot to my children and told them that I thought that was where the little chick would grow.

I love your comparison shots! Well documented. You should print them out and put them in a brag book like baby pictures.

I can't wait to have fresh eggs myself.
