I know y'all must think I'm crazy for making such a big deal about my chickens, but you have to understand that even though I grew up in the country in NC, I've never had any kind of livestock or farm animal until now. I've never had a fresh egg (until today!
) and I'm 41 years old. So, in case you haven't read the other 3 threads where I've already posted my eggciting news... my 5-1/2 month old BA laid her first egg yesterday!
Here are some new pics of my chickies, all grown up now. And some pics of my first ever home grown egg.
My little family of 4:
Lacey- Silver Laced Wyandotte roo
Betty- Black Australorp hen (Lacey's gal)
Daisy- Millie Fleur d'Uccle
Millie- Millie Fleur d'Uccle (Daisy's sister)
My very handsome, sweet boy
My beautiful, sweet, egg-laying girl
The lovely couple
1/2 of the twin sisters
Betty's first egg (on left) beside a 'large' store bought egg
Betty's first egg (right) in egg carton w/ large store bought eggs
Betty's first egg in frying pan
Betty's first egg in frying pan beside large store bought egg
Betty's egg yolk was sunshine orange compared to the store bought egg. My VERY FIRST fresh egg was delicious!
