Hello I am new to this group and have been reading a lot of the post. I really like hearing what people have to say about their chickens. I have to many to count and I love them all. I a mixed flock of RIRs Barred Rocks a few Brahamas and some banties not sure what kind. We have one chicken who we call Greta whos beak is messed up but we still love her. She gets special treatment because of the beak. Anyway she comes in to the house anytime we open the door thinking that she can just come in and get corn when she feels like it. Her is a pic of her in the house eating her corn.

I know that you should never let them hatch out eggs but she went missing for a while which i was really worried about her I thought something happened to her as my chickens are all free range but she just came back with 4 little babies. I will have to take pictures they are cute little fuzzy things. 1 black 2 white and 1 red

[IMG] Hi! And welcome to the group!
Yes, we would love to see pictures of Greta's babies!
Good thing you told us Greta likes to get corn, I am not sure chickens need coffee! [IMG]

Thanks there was actually all four (cats) of them looking at her like what is that thing but we had to clip her beak as it was getting really long for her to eat and unfortunatly it bleed a little so there was blood on the chair and things.I worry about the cats around the chickens as they do bring back mice and birds (bad cats) but they are actually afraid of them it is really funny.

I just love the look on that cats face..... " why is THAT THING getting all the attention?" Love it!
As far as letting the hens hatch out thier own babies.....yes yes yes!! I would rather let a hen do the work! She can teahc them how to be a chicken better than we can. And she wil protect them with her life! I cant waite to see the little ones. Congrats!

Finally got some pics of Greta and her babies. They are so cute and none of them have any beak problems which is good as I am really worried about that.

How precious! At least her beak problem was natural - I assume, mine have been trimmed before I got them. I'm almost embarrassed to show pictures of them, but you know what? The heck with it, when I get ready to post pics I'm gonna be one proud mama and show my girls off! They are wonderful birds, they don't know the difference anyway. Yours is a lovely bird and looks like a sweet mama to her chicks.

She really is a good bird and even though she does have that beak problem it doesn;t slow her down one bit. Infact I think she uses it to her advantage to get all the corn that she wants. LOL she is such a beggar:bun
