My chicks are eating the dirt!

    I may be panicking over nothing. However I saw the sandbox thread and decided why shouldn’t my chicks get in on the fun. I stole some dirt out of the garden at work as I live at higher elevation and I still have snow. I dried it out and put it in a pan. I set it in the brooder for them to play with. After filling the water fount I walked back in to see some of them pecking around and eating the dirt! Is this ok? [​IMG]

    As long as the soil isn't contaminated, I believe it is a fine source of grit.
