Last years chicks, which was my first, I used a steel round galvanized tub and a dog crate later as they got older., When littler on the tub, I clipped, a spot light with a 75 or 100 watt bulb to it and also put a window screen on top so chicks would stay in. THis time, I was thinking of using a large rubbermaid bin, clipping the spotlight to it with a 75 or 100 watt bulb and using the window screen over it. How does that sound? Which do you like better, pros and cons, and if I use the rubbermaid bin idea, sincew it is plastic, will it cause a fire since the spotlight will be clipped to the plastic bin, the light will not be touching it b ut close enough.

Thats what I use, a big plastic storage bin. They work great! Keeps them safe from drafts, and are easy to clean!

i used the big bin at first and the shield over the heat lamp kept the plastic cool enough not to melt it even though it was leaning against it

I started out using the rubbermaid tote. But I added 4 more chicks, so we had to move to something larger. It was working fine though.
