My ducky is pipping!!!!

So this is unexpected, My ducky is hatching a week earilier than I thought (I wrote it down on the wrong week on the calandar) This morning I almost yelled at my child for messing with the incubator when I saw a small hole on the underside of the egg when I turned it. But I can hear it pecking, the egg jumps when I held it, and we even heard it peep! I candled it, it had started to pip on the side of the egg, but has since turned and has pipped into the air cell on the other side of the egg.

Will not having a lock down and a 60% humidity affect the hatching of this ducky? (The others are a week after, this one was the only one devloping from the first set of eggs)
should I put a hole in the egg where the air cell is? It has been 12 hours since I noticed the hole.

This is my first time incubating eggs. I even made the incubator myself for almost free (just had to buy a low watt bulb) I am so eggcited!!!

OK . I had this happen to me my first time i fretted about till the duck finally hatched. 60% humidity should be fine . My first time my humidity was 50% great and my duckling hatched. * I had a lone egg lol* So it should be fine. The duck turned so that it can work on the otherside so that it will be easier to hatch . This little fella will be fine .

I was just worried about the amount of time it had been since I noticed the pip. I was worried it might get to exhasted after starting on one end, and then switching to the other.

They dont actually turn so that they are up at the air cell end- ducklings that pip the wrong end of the egg can take much longer than others to hatch. They havent got the room to move- so stimulating the process of absorbing the blood from veins and the yolk sac takes longer. Just keep the humidity up - and a close eye on the little one. It may be another day or two before it will be ready to unzip and hatch.

D'oh!! What is it with all these backwards duckies? I'm 36 hours with mine pipped on the wrong end. Shes a fighter that one.

When I candled it I can clearly see something in the air cell which is on the opposite side of the hole.........

It might of been able to turn its self around. Ya never know

Keep us informed please. I am headed home in a few mins to check on mine. Yes I actually stayed up until the end of my shift so I can go home when I can sleep here at the station just to check on my babies.... Sucky part is my partner tomorrow can be a PITA sometimes so I hope hes in a good mood.

The ducky has a red swollen belly with what looks like an ambilical cord is this normal???

Yup totally normal what you are seeing is where the yolk absorbed.

Congrats on the baby. My backwards one hatched early this morning with a little help. She is now giving lovings and snuggles

Is it normal for newly hatched ducks to stay curled up and just scoot around???? It seems to scoot around for 10 min, then takes a nap for 10, then scoots again.....
