Nelly is a 3+ year old Barred Rock that we got from a farmer to be eaten! [IMG] We decided against eating her and now she's our most favorite of all chickens!!!

And here is one of the chickens that Nelly enjoys bossing around. She's a White Leghorn.

Bless her heart, her beak is worn on one side. I like her look, though.

Your Nelly looks like a chicken I wouldn't mess with.

I've got a Nelly (hatchery Delaware), too. She's a crazy chicken but nice overall.

Nelly is a good name for a chicken! [IMG] I thought of it as soon as I decided to keep her.

Here she is in QT before being introduced to the other girls:

Nelly comes when I call her. She RUNS to me. Her favorite snacks are strawberries and mealworms. She is very vocal and will go to bed at night to the same spot without direction. She is also incredibly bossy and is able to keep the entire flock away from food when it's mealtime, so we have to make sure that Nelly gets her own separate bowl.

The farmer said she wasn't producing eggs, so he got rid of her. She lays large brown eggs for us regularly, though! She's a great old gal. I hope she's got many years ahead of her.

Hmm...that pic shows just how fitting "Nelly" a name is for my Delaware. They both have the same squinty-eyed look! That is so cool that you were able to get her and give her a good home!
