My first building!

Hi all! I’m new to chickens, and decided to build my own coop. I designed it myself and am having so much fun building it! This is the first time I’ve built something outside of my middle school shop class so I’m pretty proud. I used clear window panels for the roof, reminiscent of a greenhouse, to help it warm up in the winter and I’m planning on putting in some shade cloths that I can pull down like window shades during the summer to provide shade.

Welcome to BYC! That is a super cute design... it looks like a church and a greenhouse at the same time. How many chickens are you planning for?

I’m planning on 5, I made the coop 6 ft by 7ft, so 42 sq ft total. I’m also planning on fencing off the run area to be about 100 square feet. I wanted lots of space since everything I’ve read you always end up with more birds than you plan for.

Might I suggest Astrolourps (my feathered kids). They love cuddling are gentle and great egg layers. Mine are Amypea (for when she was a chick she did impossible thing and made the impossible (for a chick her age) possible, snuggles, cuddles, and Ms. Liz. Oh and Amypea likes to balance on the Geodes I have on the porch (like a clown on a balance ball)

I’ll definitely consider australorps, right now I’m pretty in love with salmon faverolles

Looks nice though as always I have to ask, how much ventilation do you have in there?
