My First Chicks (pics)

    These are my first chicks. [​IMG] They're Rhode Island Reds at 3 weeks old. I got them for $2 each. Do you think that's a good price? The lady had thousands!

    This first one is priceless.

    I paid $2.52, so yes, you got a good price. Very cute. My RIR is so personable, loves raisins. Will follow me a mile to get a raisin!

    That first one IS priceless. What cuties!

    You might want to get them off of newspaper and onto some straw/pine or aspen shavings. Not only is newspaper slippery, but it does nothing to control the odors you spoke of.

When we came home they had kicked so much of it into the water feeder that it had absorbed all the water, plus some had spilled out into the rest of the cage. They went several hours without water I suspect and were very thirsty when we got back. Could have turned out badly!! Now I'm afraid to switch to shavings and have gone back to newspaper. Any advice on this?
