This is my first time having chickens and I love it. I talk about my chickens to people until I notice they think I am nuts (lol). I started off with 4 chickens but my neighbors dog killed 2 of my chickens both of them Orpingtons. I have left 1 Rhode Island Red and 1 Ameraucana. My Red talks to me all the time some times yells at me she is so funny, and yet she loves me and wants to sit on my shoulder or lap. Sometimes she picks at me she don't hurt me but I often wonder what is going on in her head. This morning she had her first egg, I am so proud of her and excited. I am not really sure if I should let her sit on it a while or take it right away and being the first egg can I eat it?

My chickens keep wanting to come in the house they see the dogs coming in but not them I feel a little bad but don't wont chicken poop in the house. Do any one ever let their chickens in the house?

If you read this blog thank you, any suggestions for a new comer I appreciate it.

    Have a egg a luscious day : )

Congratulations on your first egg, so exciting!! I would take the egg away so it doesn't spoil, she will probably lay another one for you soon.

I have the same problem with talking too much about chickens in real life, hanging out here helps a lot. Welcome! :)

Congratulations! It's always so egg-citing getting that first egg.) I don't let my chickens in the house for sanitary reasons, however I do talk with my chickens.

Welcome to BYC - congrats on the first egg!!!!
There are threads here on BYC regarding "house chickens" as well as the use of chicken diapers - you might want to ready some of them. I, myself, am okay with keeping my flock as outside pets.

This site is more personable, and nicer than Facebook.

    A Egg-a-Luscious Day to everyone!
