I FINALLY found someone to ship me some delawares!!!!!!!!! [IMG] They are going to be day old chicks and are going to ship out on DEC 10th!!!!! They should be here by the 12th!!! Im so happy!!! [IMG] I was VERY upset about having to wait until spring!!! [IMG] So I should have 25 straight runs on the 11th or 12th!! [IMG] I'll post pics as soon as I have them!! Any tips?? Maybe on getting them quick and hydrated right away. I am going to call and see if they'll put some gro gel in with them and maybe send some along with them for me to give them once they get here.

edited to say that I changed my order from Straight Runs to all Pullets!!! oh and they are out of gro-gel...any suggestions on what i can get at tractor supply?

Did you order from a hatchery? If shipping day olds, they do not need any grogell in with them(for drinking), but the hatchery, will be more than willing to put in some grogell for you, to mix as soon as they get to ya. If not then hit Tractor Supply before they get here and by some electrolites for them.

My sugestion would be have the brooder set up ready to go. A day or two ahead of time. Have everything you need ready when they get here.

thanks! I called the hatchery and they said that they do not need it, but i told them to send the mix with them then so that i feel better lol. that way i can give it to them as soon as they get here. I have the brooder. All I need to do is take the hay out and put down shaving and fill the feeders and find my lights for it. [IMG] I'll probably turn the lights on the night before to make sure its good and warm for them as soon as they get here..

Sounds like you got a good deal. I had to give up my chickens last August to move to San Antonio to take care of my mother till she died. I am going back home soon and will be back fooling with chickens . I think I will get some Blue orphs and Dellies. Can't wait. franko

Congratulations! But now be sure to keep them in a warm brooder for the next 8 weeks or so. West Virginia still gets cold in Winter and they will need the head start if you want them laying by June.
