I am done...what remains I believe is going to someone else...
It ate all my daughters ducks, the rooster that I would not kill that because it survived all the other attacks. It appears our pigeons survived...

I have to pull myself together and go clean the mess, guess I do not need a man who can pee around the coop any more.

I do not know if there are words...
I am not sure there is anything that can make this day any better or worse... I was awoken by my daughter screaming that the bear was outside in the coop. Talk about disorienting. She had been upstairs eating breakfast. When I got up the only thing I heard was the thuds inside the coop. I screamed at it, blew an air horn, While my mother was worried about us making a scene when the cops got there because we were crying and yelling at us to stop the neighbors wouldnt appreciate our screaming at it to get out that stupid bear ate at least half of our chickens. We live in a basement apt. so my daughter has a male role model. I can not wait to get out of here. That was shattered today. My heart is broke and my daughter saw the bear carrying off a bloody white body, maybe her duck if it isnt the decapitated one, maybe the rooster that survived for so long so many other attacks... I am done. I am not sure what I am going to do with the remaining few but I can not watch this any more. Of course the cops can only shoot rubber bullets, useless, but it turned out this skinny young bear had three cubs. I think I need to move to a state where I can shoot them. Stupid tree huggers [IMG] here, can I leave the remains on thier doorstep? Can I show them my daughters and mines broken heart??? If you fed a bear, you did this, if you fought against the bear hunt this is your fault, there are simply to many, to to many and soon it will be a person that is killed. What then? What will you do for that family? Will you fight for the bear still? Take off your blinders! The bears are no wheres near extinction!! But we are in grave danger, who do you love more, your neighbor or the bear? There simply isnt enough room for all of us. FREE pie and coffee to the hunter that comes to my house for the next bear hunt. I might even make you steak dinner!

I am sorry you lost your fowl.

In some of your photos I see rusty chicken wire. I am very sorry but you need much better materials for a bear proof coop. Also some electric wire works real well. You should PM panner. He has bear troubles too.

Yes we have Paula and the boys here in Ga. And we have the heat too... However today it is not bad since Fay came through and dumped about 5-8 inches of rain around here, My ducks are loving it !!! We have been in a drought for so long our pond is full and overflowing for the first time in 3 years.

We have lots of bears here, but they've never bothered us. I think our two dogs discourage them.

Quote:Yep it was rusty but it broke through a lot more than that and up untill the past little bit bears never bothered us it was hawks so I was secured from them. I have had chickens many many years. There is nothing I could have done except try electric fencing and I did not have enough time to get that up. I believe am done... We will be keeping our pigeons...
