Well.. One thing led to another and I ended up raising a young bird, alongside a motherly dog and a cat.. A year later, I have an awesome little buddy. But she doesn't "cluck". Her usual sounds are soft little squeaks.. She will "caw" like a crow when she is irritated. And "coo" sweetly when she is cuddled. But no "cluck".

Is Chicken vocabulary a learned thing? .. Chicken Nuggets is a member of an interspecies flock.

On that note, I have seen her imitate the dog and cat. It is hilarious!

This picture, for example.. The cat likes to have naps on this bench in the sunroom, laying on her back.. Now the hen does it, too.
They also taught her to bang on the glass door to be let in or out.

How old is she......does she lay eggs yet?

Does the dog 'clean up' after her?

Wow she is a weird chicken. She looks very loveable. Its definitely due to her not being around any other chickens. Itd be interesting to see her with other chickens, try it some time, maybe she'll cluck to them. :)

Chicken Nuggets will be a year old this summer. She is an egg laying machine. Every day.

By the dog "cleaning up", do you mean eating poo? Then no. They do sleep together and the dog grooms her as she would a puppy.

I do not have any other chickens.. yet. But when I do take in another bird, I hope Chicken Nuggets will befriend her. The other animals have no problems adjusting to a new pet.

I'm assuming she's a house chicken. If the dog doesn't clean up the poo then does it just sit in the floor or are you constantly cleaning up after her? Just curious :)

No. She has two "poopy stations" during the day (cardboard sheet), and wears a diaper at night.

I don't know if all chickens are as smart.. but Chicken Nuggets catches on fast. Easier to train than the dog!

    You've got her 'paper trained'?
Where does she sleep at night?

Lately she prefers a high shelf in the bathroom, underneath a skylight.

Blueberries and alot of patience! When you see that tell-tale sign she is ready to let one drop, quickly move her to the box. Once she has dropped, immediate reward. Keep on it. Repetition. She'll figure it out. Similar to training a dog. Except I cannot yell at Chicken.
