my hens are eating very little

    Hello I am new to keeping a flock. We started small with a flock of three hens and a rooster tinker is the rooster then we have a big mama little girl and sparkles the are austalorpes.

    If your birds are acting normal otherwise, they are probably fine. I've noticed that my birds seem to eat less in the cold. It doesn't really make sense (you'd think they'd eat more to keep warm), but it has happened to my birds.

    Same thing happened to mine. It got cold for them and they stopped eating as much as they were. Since none of them were laying I switched to a higher protein crumble during the winter.

    Maybe from less activity - do they stay inside the coop or venture out in the cold?
