this is the egg I got today from my young Americana hen. She's only been laying a month or so. We noticed she hadn't laid for a few days and guess THIS is why. About the biggest egg I've ever gotten from one of our layers. MUST have hurt!

Does it have a double yolk? A few of my younger hens laid double yolkers in the beginning.

I gave the egg to a friend so won't know the yolk number until she cracks it. Poor little hen is walking a bit bowlegged though. And not a speck of blood on the egg. I'm amazed that she was able to pass it.

I got a huge egg this morning too. One of our hens regularly lays double-yolkers, but this was even bigger. DH calls them "pterodactyl eggs"

My EE laid one like that a few days ago. She had been laying little ones before that. I just assumed it was a double yolker so didn't take a pic. Well, when I cracked it in the skillet, it was the BIGGEST yolk I had ever seen. [IMG] It was probably the size of a 50 cent piece. [IMG] Sure tasted yummy.
