Before I got chickens I asked my neighbors if they would mind if I got a few chickens for egg/pet purposes. The one neighbor said he really wanted some but the wife wouldn't let him, so they didn't mind (I didn't think they would since they had a goat for a brief period that kept escaping its pen just to wait at our door in the morning for my husband) Then I asked the neighbors on the other side of me, they are an elderly couple that have been there for a long time. They told me that my property used to be a pig farm

They said it couldn't be any worse than that in the summer! Well today the second neighbor's wife saw me playing around in the coop, yes in the coop I bet that was a funny site. She came over asking if I had any eggs yet, I just started laughing, I told her well most have feathers now! She said her granddaughter was curious about the coop and what was in it and told her we had chickens, now she wants some too! I told her that her granddaughter could name one and pretend it was hers so they wouldn't have to take care of it. She thanked me and said she'd keep checking back for the eggs!!

It is nice to hear about good neighbors for a change.

It was also very nice of you to let the little girl name a chicken. If everyone would take the time to show such kindness the world would be a much better place.

Oh....and I play in the coop too.

Hooray, good outcome. I asked my neighbors as well despite the fact that, legally, I can have the girls. I explained that I was getting three chickens, no rooster and that I would make sure they were kept clean and quiet. Our neighbors all want eggs! In fact, neighbors way up the street have already started asking though June is the earliest I see us getting eggs. Might have to add a few gals to our flock!
