My new baby ducklings are to cold!

I just wanted to add for future reference to anyone having the same issues, brooder plates work by allowing ducklings/chicks to heat through contact. It has to be low enough that their backs can touch the plate. Any thermometer you place directly under there will never read correctly because of this.

Scott, my husband is a technician by trade and has all the gizmo's and laser things that test that sort of thing.
He made a brooder out of a Waeco fridge and put a heat mat in the bottom, covering it with heavy duty gaffe tape. It's perfect for the chicks, it keeps the bedding warm. Ducklings on the other hand are water hippos, water everywhere. The heat mat reacted to 40c, it was hot.
