Twas the night before Christmas, and up in the trees Our white-faced Spanish chickens were preparing to freeze. My hubby plucked them all from the branches with care, And put them into the coop cuz it's warmer in there. We got them all settled and safe in the coop, On our way back to the house, we stepped in their poop! We scraped off our shoes on the boot scraper outside Chicken poop in the carpet, I just cant abide! Then out in the henhouse, there arose such a clatter, We went running back outside to see what was the matter! Away through the front door, across the deck, down the stair, And stepped RIGHT in another pile of poop down there. We opened the coop door and shined the flashlight Most of the chickens were roosting and settled for the night. But theres always one rooster that starts all the noise (I just gotta get busy and process those boys!) Once we got them quieted and settled, we closed the coop door, Scraped our shoes on the scraper, just like wed done before. We paused for a moment and looked up at the sky, So beautiful and clear, we saw Santa fly by! He looked down and he saw us standing out on our deck, So he came back and landed in our yard what the heck? He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf. Is this REALLY happening? I said to myself. We invited him in for some milk and some pie. He couldnt stay long, as he still had to fly. You see, there are children who are waiting for me To bring Christmas presents to place under the tree. We thanked him for stopping and staying a while. As he hopped back on his sleigh, he gave us a big smile. And I did hear him say as he flew out of sight, Happy Christmas to y'all, and to y'all a good night.
