My husband had a meeting out of town, wouldn't be in til late, and my daughter is away at my sister's house. My plan was to go home and relax, watch a movie, drink some wine, fix a small dinner, etc. Another baby had hatched when I got home, probably only an hour old and just adorable. All the babies and mothers were hanging out in the coop walking around talking, I play with them for a bit and go back to the house.

All of a sudden, around 6:00PM, the power goes out and this HORRIFIC storm rolls in (we haven't had rain or a storm in weeks) so I go flying back outside to get everyone up and into their boxes. I told my sister I felt like Auntie Em getting up the farm animals before the tornado, the wind was insane!!

I put each baby in their respective boxes and place the mother's in there with their own babies then run back in. It starts raining SIDEWAYS, hard, forceful rain that sounded like hail, everything was knocking over on the porch and deck, so I hauled my butt back out to the coop, just worried to death about the babies.

I get out there to find all six babies in one box and two mothers on top of them and the remaining three eggs. The third mother was standing outside the box, guarding, soaking wet but wouldn't move. I was so relieved and proud of all of my girls. I am so happy that they are raising all of these babies together. It's just a really neat thing to watch.

Anyway, I was without power for six hours, which sucked. So much for my R&R night alone watching a movie and having a nice dinner!!!!!!!! I ate sandwich meat, peanut butter crackers and ice cream... [IMG]

That sucks. We got that storm too but it was nothing like what you had. What good mommas you have protecting the babies like that. [IMG]

Good thinking to eat the ice cream first in case the power was out too long and you lost stuff in the freezer... [IMG]

I've got a sweet image in my head now of your mamma hen staying out to protect the babies!
