My Pekins have some wild friends :-) PHOTO

    I crawled down to the pond (literally) so I could get some shots. I believe they are called Hooded Mergansers, there are 3 Drakes and 1 Hen. They've been coming to our pond for a few weeks now.

    Thank you Ladies! I had a blast down there watching them. I'm hoping to get more shots when my Pekins are actually swimming with the Mergansers. They all get along so well.

    wouldnt it be cool if you got some of those crossed with your pekins in the spring...maybe they will stick around...Those are way cool looking birds!

    I don't think they can cross... hooded mergansers are tiny! [​IMG] And not very social outside their own kind once winter's over...

    But then the magical entity known as the internet informed me that it IS possible for mallards and mergansers to cross, which I certainly didn't think possible! The article I read didn't state a specific species, so I'm guessing common since they're bigger and more mallard-like in appearance and mannerisms than the hooded mergansers.
