they are small but my mallard youngsters aren't much bigger than them.
Anywho the hen is soo afraid of people i feel so horrible for her. She screams and slams herself in to ANYTHING just to avoid being near us. Breaks my heart.Never in my life have i seen any bird THAT afraid except a wild bird...and even then a wild bird doesn't normally act that bad. Is it possible she was torchered by a little kid at some point or something. Just feel bad for her...I put her in my flight pen that's enclosed everywhere with her mate... my mallards aren't being very accepting of the new comers and I just want them comfortable so they are separated.

I have a question though their feathers ALL over their body feel like straw. My mallards have silky smooth feathers but t hese poor sweeties feel disgusting almost like they're dirty but I dont SEE any dirt on them. I'm going to pull out the baby pool tomorrow for them to swim in since htey cant swim in the specifically made for ducks small pond (since they're in their own pen) could that be all they need is a good bath???

Also will she lay anymore this year??? Or isn't it normal for her to? I have a duckling of hers from when my friends owned her and she layed one for this lady but hasnt layed in days just curious if she may lay again.

Calls usually lay (around here in NY) from march through june-ish. So, I wouldnt expect her to lay anymore. Especially since she is going through the stress of being acclimated to a new home.

About the straw-ish feathers. Give them something large to swim around and clean themselves in. Possibly they just didnt have any swimming water, or are just dirty. My calls feathers feel very silky, not like straw at all.

Im just guessing that she wasnt handled very much. She should calm down over time.
