Sometimes weird stuff happens. Sounds like your lovely lady is unfortunately carrying a gene that causes her to lay an egg that disqualifies her as an "SOP Ameraucana". It's VERY disappointing but it happens. Make note of who you purchased the egg/chicken from (maybe you'll want to try someone else in the future) and let them know so they can be aware of what occured.

Sounds like you have a LOVELY Ameraucana roo so hopefully that means you have something to work with that means there will be LOADS of blue egg laying Ameraucanas in your future!!!!

I am looking at the American Standard of Perfection 2010 for disqualifications on Amerucana Chickens: Presence of ear tuffs, absence of beard and muffs, yellow soles of foot or toes.
It does not mention anything about the egg color as being a defect. The egg color is listed as a quality not a defect or disqualification.
The egg color is coming from the breeding way way long time back and it is just something that happens. So, you keep those who give you blue eggs but unfortunately it may come from a blue egg layer if the rooster and the hen both carry the gene that causes the pink (pastel egg) egg color. So during breeding you keep great records of which hen laid what egg and which rooster it came from. That is the only way an Ameraucana breeder can eliminate this gene from their flock.
