My Roo Funkey Chicken starts "singing" an song, [IMG] which I think is his Egg song? He goes in the dog house and sits down like an hen. [IMG] Then gets up and leaves. My hens don't lay in the dog house, so what is he doing? All the other chickens come and watch. [IMG] [IMG] Is this normal or dose anyone else have an Henroo?
    This is Funkey

What a beautiful big boy roo! [IMG]

Another BYC member here posted that roos will do that. He does studies of chickens.

Hey, i have a hen who acts like a roo. [IMG]

When i had roos, they would sometimes go into the nest box and make clucking noises. Someone said they do that to attract the ladies and show them what a good dad they would be.

Sounds like he's trying to tell his ladies that he found some great egg-laying digs! My boys do this whenever I put new nesting boxes in. Once the hens start using them, not so much.

Mine digs nesting divots for the girls in the corners of the coop and then calls to them while dropping his chest into the divot. He's not confused at all, he's trying to encourage his ladies to lay eggs and rear his chicks in a place he considers good and safe. [IMG]
