So I found my rooster dead today. I don’t know what it was. He was found inside the run area. I think it was a hawk but I’m not sure.

His name was Tiny and he was a Red Pyle Old English game bantam. 😭

I'm so sorry for your loss, and this hawk will return, for sure. keep your birds in a safe coop and run for at least ten to fourteen days, until this hawk gives up and moves on.

Thank you. I’ll make sure to do that.

And, a little off subject but any suggestions to make it seem so sad? I might be overreacting but he was my favorite rooster.

I'm so sorry. Did he have any babies yet? You may still have some fertile eggs around for a week or so if you are interested in hatching some. I'm a little afraid of this happening to my big guy before my pullet eggs get big enough to really try for a hatch.

If it makes you feel any better, though, chickens are prey animals and are designed for a chancy kind of life. Backyard chickens have it so good compared to wild or commercial settings. He had a great life and you should be proud of giving that to him! I hope the pain lessens for you soon.

Thank you. We hatched one egg earlier this year that we think was his baby. She (Alice) resembles how he and her mama acted a lot. I’ll see if I can find a picture of her

So we think Tiny (the rooster in the first pic) fertilized our white bantam hen Cotton (the white bantam hen in pics 2 and 3) and Alice was the result (the white bantam hen in pic 4)
